Hello Runners, Walkers and Joggers,
Hope you are all settling in to the programme well. Its a great time to get used of the mileage as its all in or around the same for the last few weeks. Saturdays will be starting to move now but take your time and stick with it. This is not a race it is a marathon goal and all you have to do is get it done so pace should not come in to it for the majority of you. I want to re cap on the few things I mentioned last night in case people were missing or didn’t hear.
We are starting our savings club next Monday night at 7:40 to 8pm. This will give you a chance to get your entry paid off in small pieces so that you don’t have a big bill come the start of October. The cost for the hotel is €80 that is based on two nights on a per person sharing. You can buddy up with somebody when the time comes or if your bringing your other half then you might need to add more to the fund. You can add whatever you want to it on a weekly basis. The cost of the marathon is €85. The minimum payment for the two will be €165. On Monday night you can bring what ever you can and go to either Bernie Sheehy, Siobhain O’Mahony or George O’Grady and they will take the money and get you to sign for what you handed over. I think this is a great way to get it paid off early so you don’t have to be worrying it about when the time comes.
We are presently looking into the shirts at the moment and should have an answer for you by next week. We are looking at another source for them which would mean they would come in at a lower cost and you will be able to order them online also which would be very helpful.
Run Killarney is our first venture into the events circuit this year. It is on the 20th of July. I have over 70 forms handed out and still have a few more. The discount we receive is at the top and I will need these forms back by Saturday morning training at the latest. If you have just started the marathon programme I recommend that you only do the 10km route. If you have been running a while then you might like to try the half marathon but only if you have been running before the programme started. Its very important that you do not rush into things and try a higher mileage that your not used off. It could end up putting you off if you overdo it and that’s not what anybody wants. Killarney is a great day and I highly recommend it as an event. A few of us are going to stay the night and have a few beverages! We would love to see more join us and make a night of it. You can get very cheap accommodation on trivago or bookings.com We also encourage you to bring your partners along with you too.
Brian and Julie two of longest established runners are heading to Portumna next week to take on the 100km challenge. This is not their first time to do something like this and I’m sure it wont be there last but I want to wish them the best of luck with it and I have no doubt that they will both finish strong! They are eager to point out that they once started where are a lot of you are now so anything is possible people!
That’s my lot for a while. Wednesday night we are upping it a small bit more. I will have the route up online for you soon.
Until Wednesday….Keep the faith
